She wasn't ever particularly strong, and once her mother was sent away to get help, she was shoved in with her Aunt and Uncle, who had five nasty children who bullied her ruthlessly. One day, she found a clear stone in the river, where she'd gone to fetch water. Hoping it was magic, she made a wish on it to be strong and skipped it across the water for good luck. The next morning, she found that she could do amazing feats: she saved her youngest cousin from being crushed by a toppling cart. However, her aunt and uncle were afraid of her strength, and took her out into the middle of the woods and left her there. Alone, she cried herself to sleep, only to wake up mysteriously in a circus tent, where a woman with dog ears took care of her...
